Nadra was tired. The journey through the Southern Desert had taken longer than she'd expected. The sun was setting and it was Altheria was still a day away. She decided to stop for the night.

The sun had sey completly by the time she'd magicked a fire into excistance. She sat before it, beginning her nightly meditation. The sounds of the desert faded away from her as she slipped deeper into the meditation state. So entranced was she that she did not notice the seven figures approaching behind her. One of the hooded men laid a hand on her shoulder.

Nadra gasped, jerking out of her trance. She tried to get up, but the hands held her done. "Who are you?" She cried. "Let go of me!" More hands were joining the first two, pinning her to the ground. Hooded faces appeared above her, keeping her from seeing her attackers completly. One of her covered her mouth.

"She is Witch," one hissed. "I can sense it tainting her blood." "Then we shall cut it out of her," another replied.  Nadra tried to scream, but couldn't. Before she realized what was happening, she felt herself going weak.  It felt like the life was being drained from her body, but they had not wounded her. Her eyes were heavy. Just before they closed, she saw the most beautiful site. A glowing blue light was being drawn from her body, floating out above her.
She watched it, entranced, until a pain like she'd never felt before exploded through her body. She sobbed and tried to wither away from it.

The hooded figure above her raised her hand and the blue light lurched away from her body. She had the sensation of a limb being torn off. A final burst of pain, and she collapsed, almost unconscious. The people let go of her, but she had no strength or will to try and escape. She watched uncomprehendingly through half closed eyes as one person drew a knife. Her body barely registered the pain as he began carving a word into her chest. That word was "Pure."

Ember tossed the water out of a large pot outside the cabin she shared with her coven mates. "Another tincture gone horrible awry," she muttered. Rain smiled from the door behind her. "It just takes practice.

The wolf watched the cabin through the underbrush, deep in the woods. The two girls in the door way apparently had no idea she was there.

Ember put her hand on her hip. "Easy for you to say. You already know all this healing stuff." Rain seemed to ignore her. She looked alert and left the front door to look deeper into the darkening woods.
"What's wrong?" Ember asked.
"You didn't see that?" Rain demanded, and when Ember shook her head, she went on. "I saw an animal. A big one."

The wolf heard the girls talking and began its approach. When the taller of the girls appeared to notice her, she knew she could continue her game no longer. The wolf ran at full speed to the cabin door and jumped when she'd almost reached them. Before she reached the ground, though, she faded to smoke until there was nothing left.

The two girls stepped back before the wolf turned to smoke. They looked at each other before turning to the cabin. "Eve. What are you doing?"

They went back inside to see a third girl sitting with her head in her arms at a table. She appeared to be asleep. "Eve?" Ember prodded her.

Eve sat up and grinned at them. "Did I freak you out?" she asked.
"Maybe the first three times, " Ember said. "You've been practicing the soul shift all week. Always a wolf." Eve leaned back in her chair. "Always."

Rain went to the cabin window, ignoring her Coven sisters. "Has anyone seen Lycan?"
Ember shook her head. "I think he's out hunting. Why?" The girls' owl familiar was often outside.
"He's been gone for days," Rain explained.
